Ahmad Salahat

Faced with the banning of the Palestinian flag in Gaza and the West Bank, Palestinians have historically used the watermelon as a symbol of identity and resistance.

Now faced with the censorship of pro-Palestinian content on social media, the symbol is now used by activists across the world to show unity with the Palestinian people, circumventing languages and cultures.

London-based Palestinian artist Ahmad Salahat uses this symbol and strips away the colour to create a raw display of solidarity with his people, however far away they now are.
