Vivienne Shao

Vivienne Shao is a Chinese illustrator, born in Guangzhou, China, who now mainly lives in London. Vivienne’s work explores common topics, and her perspectives on them derived from her personal experiences. She creates colourful and fun illustrations, often featuring herself as the protagonist, using highly saturated colours and a sense of humour, to provide a new perspective to the audience.

Vivienne’s recent works often explore female related topics, such as discussing issues around fertility and menstruation. Through these pieces she expresses her thoughts and attitude towards them, in aim of bringing more attention, generating discussion, and pushing to break down the misunderstandings many people hold.

In these pieces, Vivienne expertly uses satire in response to the cultural ideas that she observes, subverting and challenging out-dated taboos and beliefs.
